René Giraudet (1907-1945) fut l’une de ces figures discrètes dont la lumière traverse les ténèbres de l’Histoire. Curé en France, il choisit de rester fidèle à sa vocation jusque dans l’adversité la plus extrême. Déporté en Allemagne durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il devint ouvrier à Berlin puis prisonnier dans un camp de concentration. Là, au coeur de la souffrance et de la privation, il continua de célébrer, en secret, l’espérance : des messes clandestines qui redonnaient courage et dignité à ses compagnons d’infortune.

Jusqu’à sa mort en 1945, René Giraudet incarna une résilience spirituelle sans faille, celle d’un homme dont la foi se fit résistance, et dont la mémoire demeure un témoignage de courage et d’espérance.

Le 20 juin 2025, le pape Léon XIV reconnaît officiellement le martyre de 50 religieux fran-çais - dont René Giraudet - et annonce leur béatification le 13 décembre 2026 en la Cathé-drale Notre-Dame de Paris.
