Ce livre est la traduction française du livre anglais A Companion to Homo Abyssus écrit par DavidSchindler. Homo Abyssus : le Drame de la Question de l’Être (Humanum, 2018) de Ferdinand Ulrich, initialement publié en 1961, est l’une des oeuvres les plus révolutionnaires de la métaphysique chrétienne du XXe siècle. Mais c’est aussi un livre difficile, qui pose des défis uniques au lecteur en raison de son vocabulaire particulier, de son approche inhabituelle des thèmes traditionnels, et du contexte philosophique qu’il considère comme acquis.

Ce Compagnon a pour but d’offrir aux lecteurs une première aide pour entrer dans le texte et s’yretrouver. Plutôt que de commenter le texte page par page, il comprend cinq essais relativement brefs sur les thèmes fondamentaux d’Homo Abyssus et une reprise condensée des raisonnements tels qu’ils sont développés au fil de l’oeuvre. Il fournit également la traduction d’un essai qu’Ulrich a écrit juste après la publication d’Homo Abyssus, dans lequel il présente la thèse essentielle de son oeuvre de manière plus concise.
