The handwritten Bible

New Current French

The printed handwritten Bible brings together in 2 volumes, the entire book of Psalms and the New Testament, copied by more than 500 participants, of all ages, from all Christian denominations, and from the entire French-speaking world, during the period of confinement / deconfinement of 2020. It is:
- A collective and unique work, touching, interfaith and intergenerational.
- An artistic work of great diversity.
- The reflection of a surge of fraternity, of unity in the face of the biblical text and in the face of the ordeal of confinement.
- A living testimony that shows that the Bible is timeless.

The birth of the project :
In May 2020, the French Bible Alliance launched the collective creation of a handwritten Bible or “Confined Bible” by inviting all those who want to participate in recopying a chapter of the New Testament or a psalm. This project brings together the works of different volunteer copyists to make a new and unique object. 500 copyists from all walks of life and all Christian denominations therefore embarked on this great adventure. “Recopying the Bible is a strong spiritual experience which leads to personal appropriation of the text while being part of a collective approach. It is part of a story, in a relationship to the text that comes to us from afar and that we continue to bring to life by remaining connected together to the essential.”

Personalities from all walks of life participated in this unique work
:
- Dr Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize

- Olivier Giroud, professional footballer

- Mgr Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, president of the Conference of Bishops of France
