Les Pensées du Nyokodō nous font plonger dans le coeur de Takashi Paul Nagai durant les dernières années de sa vie. Ce médecin et chercheur japonais, converti au christianisme grâce à la rencontre des descendants des «chrétiens cachés» d’Urakami, dont Midori Marina qui devint son épouse, eut à traverser bien des épreuves au long de sa vie. La bombe atomique qui dévasta Nagasaki le 9 août 1945 lui arracha tout ce qu’il possédait. Il s’installa alors dans un cabanon en bois, le Nyokodō, où il vécut un chemin spirituel de dépouillement et de sainteté, et d’où il écrivit les pensées et les lettres qui nous font découvrir son coeur assoiffé de simplicité et d’absolu.
