The Ecumenical Translation of the Bible (TOB), with essential notes

Ecumenical Translation of the Bible

The “Ecumenical Translation of the Bible” (TOB), published in 1975, marked a turning point in the long history of Bible translation. For the first time in the world, Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox biblical scholars worked together to produce a modern translation whose reliability and seriousness are now recognized by all.

The TOB Bible has since benefited from major revisions, in 1988 and 2004, offering a more precise and harmonious text and taking into account advances in biblical research.

The 2010 edition includes new updates to the notes and introductions, with some translation corrections. It carries the same requirement for clarity of language and fidelity to the source text.

The TOB 2010 also constitutes an unprecedented editorial and ecumenical event: for the first time in the history of the Bible in the French language, it integrates an additional set of six deuterocanonical books used in the liturgy of the Orthodox Churches: 3 and 4 Esdras , 3 and 4 Maccabees, the Prayer of Manasseh, Psalm 151.

This edition has essential notes on the particularities of the text, general introductions, an introduction to each biblical book, a chronological table, a glossary.
