Land in danger, land shared - Open Bible

On the occasion of its bicentenary, the French Bible Alliance organized a conference on the theme “Land in danger, earth in sharing: open Bible” (November 17, 2018). It was a question of confronting the deep current ecological crises with the biblical texts: what lessons, what questions do they bring us? What avenues for engagement? What reasons for hope?
The conference noted what the Scriptures say about the place of the human being in creation and about his relationship with God “Creator of heaven and earth”. He raised the question of his responsibility and his mission in disfigured creation. Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox biblical scholars and theologians provide their insights and questions. This work also addresses some questions about our economic system: faced, in particular, with the runaway global warming and the massive erosion of biodiversity, can we rely on “actors of hope”? How to define, protect and manage common goods? So, do Christians have a specific role and responsibility? We must rejoice that the Churches are investing both theologically and in the field. Some initiatives are described and analyzed. According to the book of Genesis, when God had finished his creative work, he saw that it “was very good.” May this work contribute to deepening the biblical foundation of man's place in the theater of creation, in the hope of the Kingdom.
